The Human Rights Unit at the College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop titled:

“The Language of Administrative Discourse”

The workshop aimed to enhance administrative and linguistic skills among academic and administrative staff. It was presented by Dr. Zuhair Kamel Al-Ghuraybawi, who discussed the concept of language in the administrative context. He explained the types of discourse and the components of successful administrative communication, in addition to the methods of addressing communications from higher to lower levels and vice versa, emphasizing the importance of politeness in administrative correspondence. The workshop also addressed common mistakes in administrative phrasing in terms of language and style, and provided guidance on how to write official letters correctly and professionally. The lecture was enriched by contributions from Dr. Akram Sabah (Lecturer) and Mustafa Rasheed (Assistant Lecturer), who shared their experiences and specialized insights. The workshop witnessed significant engagement from participants, who requested that it be expanded into a comprehensive training course due to the importance of the topic for administrative and academic staff. At the end of the session, Dr. Zuhair Al-Ghuraybawi expressed his gratitude to the attendees for their active participation and valuable contributions to the discussion.

Media and Government Communication Division

As part of Al-Nahrain College of Medicine’s ongoing efforts to support the linguistic and professional development of its staff, and under the generous patronage of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Anees Khalil Nael, the Supportive Sciences Unit/English Language Division, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a training course titled:

“Iraqi National English Language Test (INELT)”. 

The course was held from May 19 to May 25, 2025. The course witnessed active participation from a number of faculty members and administrative staff, and included intensive lectures and practical training on the core English language skills covered in the national exam. Lectures were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Bushra Juhi Jani and Lect. Thanaa Hindi Saleh from the Supportive Sciences Unit/English Language Division. All participants successfully passed the course exam, reflecting their dedication and eagerness to enhance their academic and linguistic skills. In response to the participants’ enthusiasm and interest, the college plans to offer additional English language courses based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) levels (A1–C2) during the upcoming academic year, as part of the joint plan of the Supportive Sciences Unit and the Continuing Education Unit, aiming to further strengthen the English proficiency of its staff.
