The College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University, through the Department of Chemistry and Medical Biochemistry, organized an educational scientific seminar on Thursday, May 22, 2025, titled: "Ethical Decision-Making in Academic Work" The seminar was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Raghad Ahmed. It aimed to shed light on the importance of professional ethics within the academic environment and its pivotal role in promoting scientific integrity and reinforcing sound values in education, research, and academic supervision. The seminar addressed the concept of ethical decision-making, the factors influencing it, and the systematic steps that help academics make fair and responsible decisions—decisions that uphold students’ rights and preserve the credibility of educational institutions. It emphasized that adherence to academic ethics is not merely a theoretical framework, but a daily practice manifested in scientific honesty, respect for disciplines, and fair treatment of students and colleagues. The absence of these values leads to a decline in educational quality and a loss of trust in academic institutions. The seminar received great engagement, featuring an open discussion and presentation of real-life examples and challenges faced by academics in their field. This enriched the dialogue and enhanced awareness of the vital role ethics plays in academic work, with the participation of a distinguished group of university professors and individuals interested in academic and educational affairs.
