The main hall at the College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University was filled with a vibrant scientific atmosphere during the discussions of fourth-year students’ research projects. These discussions marked the culmination of outstanding academic efforts under the supervision of the faculty members from the Department of Family and Community Medicine. The research topics varied, covering areas such as primary healthcare and medical education research. Students presented the findings of their studies before a scientific committee comprised of distinguished faculty members from the department, in the presence of the Head and several members of the Medical Education and Curriculum Development Unit at the college. These research projects represent a foundational step in training students in the practical aspects of scientific research—from sample collection and data analysis to writing scientific papers and defending their results—contributing to the development of their academic and research skills. Moreover, research in medical education is considered a key pillar in achieving the fourth Sustainable Development Goal, which is to ensure quality education. It plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of medical education outcomes in Iraq.
