Professor Dr. Mahmoud Shakir Khudair, Head of the Internal Medicine Department at Al-Nahrain College of Medicine, participated in the scientific conference of the Iraqi Diabetes and Endocrinology Association (IDEA), which was recently held in the capital, Baghdad. The conference brought together a distinguished group of professors and researchers specializing in this field from across Iraq. During the event, Professor Dr. Mahmoud Shakir delivered an outstanding scientific lecture on the treatment of type 2 diabetes, with a particular focus on the "incretin" class of medications. These drugs are considered among the most recent and important advancements due to their effective role in blood sugar control, weight reduction, and positive impact on cardiovascular health. The conference also featured two research papers supervised and co-authored by Dr. Mahmoud. The first paper addressed patients' perceptions of insulin therapy, while the second focused on acromegaly and the effectiveness of newly available treatments. Dr. Mahmoud also played a key role in moderating conference sessions and took part in the ceremony honoring researchers and participants—an acknowledgment of his academic stature and ongoing efforts to support scientific research and therapeutic advancement in the field of endocrinology and diabetes.
