A surgery was performed by Professor Dr. Abdul Amir Jasim Mohammed Al-Khafaji, a faculty member in the Department of Surgery at Al-Nahrain College of Medicine, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Saad Al-Watari Neuroscience Hospital on a four-year-old child suffering from craniosynostosis (premature closure of cranial sutures), which causes pressure on the brain and optic nerve, potentially leading to optic atrophy. Ideally, this surgery should have been performed before the child turned one year old, but the case was referred late. Nevertheless, the right and left frontal sutures were successfully opened to relieve the pressure on the brain. After the child completes growth and reaches puberty, a cosmetic and skull graft surgery will be required. The sutures were successfully opened, and by the grace of God, the child is in good condition.
